took the PE a few years ago (Chemical Engineer) and thought the EIT (FE) was actually harder since it covered all disciplines
I used a lot of NCEES practice exams for preparation - check different states around you because each state allows different reference material during the test - you will also want to find out about reciprocity in other states because you don't want to have to take the test twice if you move argghh

Which discipline and state?
I second the ppi2pass references. They are extremely popular and I found they prepared me well for the exam.
edit: I brought other books with me, but only used the reference book from ppi2pass during the test.
I'm a registered PE in California (Mechanical) and did my PE about 4 years ago.0
