"...I hope you won't take this the wrong way or count this as flattery or anything...but that dress makes you look so slim"

That's what my oldest son (12 years old) just said to me--about some new pj's I recently got  :smooched:

I LOVE my children and my family...they make me feel so, special!  :drinker:

Girl...I do so appreciate that, because children DO tell the truth (I didn't think about that). My children(my sons and daughters ) are always telling me how beautiful I am and stuff like that and I've taught /teach my children (especially my sons) about flattery and how it's not good to flatter people and that flattery isn't wise or good. This is a gorgeous PJ dress I got from Target on sale a few months ago....it's a beautiful deep burgundy color and I recently started wearing it, after not wearing it for a long time, because my gut and butt were just huge in it and it didn't fit right and made me look like a ummm, let's just say it was too small and didn't fit AT ALL. Now that I'm losing lots inches (far more than pounds), it fits nicely and how kind and encouraging of that nice little boy of mine to tell me this. I wish I could have video taped him saying it...he was absolutely adorable and sincere

That's super! If a BOY child notices, you must be doing well! And I like your little ticker sign - made me laugh. I have to go write that down.

I wasn't speechless, but oh so pleasantly surprised to say the least! I don't know if I'm looking amazing or anything close to that...but my children see me working hard with exercising and eating--they know I'm in it to win it and I will say, what my nice little boy said to me did surprise me enough that I wanted to post it here as an NSV. My hubby and daughters and other son are telling me how good I'm looking too...but the way this baby said it to me--wow, what a blessing and pretty darn funny/adorable to me too:love:

Cute! You must look great for your own son to say something considering the ones we are around the most seem to notice the least!! Congratulations
  • You teach your kids NOT to flatter people?? Why would you teach them that? Isn't it a good thing when someone says something nice to someone else?

Yes ma'am it's a fabulous thing to say nice things to people, but flattery is different than saying nice things to people--this is what flattery is:

    Definition of FLATTERY
    1
a : the act or practice of flattering
    b (1) : something that flatters (2) : insincere or excessive praise

    flat·ter·y
    /ˈflatərē/
    Noun
Excessive and insincere praise, esp. that given to further one's own interests.
    Synonyms
    adulation - blarney - blandishment - cajolery - palaver

    Examples of FLATTERY

He tried to win his teacher's favor with flattery.
<a talk show host who is known for charming her guests with disingenuous flattery>

Also...The Bible talks a lot about flattery, I won't get into what I teach my children on flattery from the Bible, but it's not good..again, flattery and sincere compliments and praising someone is definitely not the same, at least in our home it not...hope this helps some:flowerforyou:

I've done the same with my boys, they are always complimenting me or our friends....people often ask If I've told them to say the stuff they do, nope, just taught them good manners.

 Girlllll....Children can be so innocent and soooo honest about the most personal things:noway: , the younger they are...the more honest they can be too and though it can be shocking/embarrassing, it's also a HUGE blessing too--right?!?...I heard someone say one time, if you ever want to hear the truth about something really personal (especially in your home life)...ask a/your child(ren)laugh: :noway:  :drinker:
