I am going through a difficult time right now and I'm very emotionally reactive. When I am sad, I cannot eat. I starve. I would be surprised if I had 800 calories today. (Not logging)

It's been this way for a few weeks. Am I messing up my fat loss severely? I'm not concerned about gaining the weight back but I am about losing muscle.

Any help or support is appreciated.

Yes, I would be concerned about losing muscle. Plus, eating that low cannot help you feel any better. It will just make you feel worse. Try high calorie foods like full-fat milk, peanut butter, ensure shakes, nuts and dried fruit, etc. You won't have to eat a lot of it to bump up your intake.

Forgot the most important part-- Feel better soon!

Thanks. Do you think just bumping up my protein intake severely and lifting a crap load of weight would help?

Would help what? Help you feel better? Help discourage muscle loss?

Eating more protein and lifting will help with the not wasting away. However I feel like if you don't eat enough, your body still has to burn something for energy - ie even if you bump up your protein so you are eating 1200 cals if you burn 1600 cals during the day and while lifting your body is still going to have to burn something to make up the deficit. Try adding in some carbs for your body to burn while lifting and some protein after to help build muscle
  • Sorry that you are going through a tough time. I understand having a hard time eating when you are feeling so bad. Liquid calories might help--milk, smoothies, shakes. Stuff that is easier to get down than real food but will still fuel your body. I hope things look up for you soon!

Really sorry that things aren't good for you right now. Do the higher calorie foods as suggested because when things are better for you you will want to eat normally and won't be able to without getting fatter since your metabolism would have slowed. Take care!
