Which fitness magazines (for women?) are good?

Not sure if I'm in the right place here, but I'll ask anyways :smokin:

I've been through my share of fitness/health magazines, but I think it's difficult to find one that's serious and don't press on 6 meals a day/no carbs after 20/nonsense workouts with 1-lb weights for women/you get the idea if you agree with me

Which is your favorite(s)? And for what reason?

Personally, I am yet to come across any women's fitness magazine that doesn't promote all of that crap. But maybe I've read the wrong ones though, despite me feeling I've read them all. In each magazine ill find maybe 1 good article or piece of info, if that, so I just avoid them all together. If I'm bored at an airport or something? Sure ill get one as a once off but that's it.

    Just my personal opinion =)

There are ZERO decent fitness magazines that I'm aware of. Even 'Women's Health' is mostly fashion tips and relationship crap, and their workouts are equivalent to warmups for real programs. They're just a regular women's magazine, except the models are in Adidas.

Stumptuous.com is the best woman-oriented blog I can think of, though I know there are others. She gets to brass tacks - instruction, workout planning ideas, diy strength equipment. There's some opinion writing, but you don't have to dig through it to find what you need.

For workout ideas, I often find myself at t-nation.com (mix of crazy and excellent. There are too many pictures of women in bikinis though, some misogynist leanings now and then), builtlean.com (thoughtful approaches to planning), & the blogs of Lyle McDonald, Eric Cressy, & Bret Contreras. <- good mix of ideas & research review.

I don't know of any good print publications/magazines dedicated to Fitness that really have any beneficial to offer its readers. Similarly to what the last poster mentioned, just full of crap.

I read Bodybuilding.com but my goals are focused toward gaining muscle and becoming in the best shape of my life. May or may not be for you

I love SELF magazine (I get a free subscription using my coca cola points w00t!). Lots of great recipes and workouts in there and they encourage healthy, sensible diets. Cover lots of other health issues for women too as well as fitness fashions and your general "girly" stuff. I think they promote very healthy messages, physically and mentally and I have a lot of fun trying the different workouts every month, most are designed for you to do at home with minimal equipment though they have occassional gym and specialty workouts thrown in there too.
