SKIPPING MEALS?

How does everyone feel about skipping meals? I ask this because often I wake up very late in the morning (10:30 or 11:00) and don't get around to eating until noon. On the days my spouse works, we eat dinner at around 5. Most often I don't eat a meal in between. Does this help or hurt? I follow a regular meal plan on the other four days (breakfast, lunch, dinner), but I was wondering if skipping a meal on the other days was likely to harm my progress.

So long as you aren't TOO far under your calories, you should be just fine. I know there are days when I have this happen. But, for me, I usually am more concerned with crashing bs than with the metabolism slowing down.0

I sometimes find myself in the same situation, it shouldn't hurt you if you don't run and eat junk food. The only thing that would worry me is keeping the portion under control and not just gorge myself full of food.0

I don't see any reason why waiting an hour before you eat "breakfast" would hurt anything. Heck, I get up at 5:10am but don't eat till after 7, so what's the big deal? I eat lunch at 11:15, but dinner is around 6. I might have a snack in between, but not necessarily a meal. Some people do intermittent fasting, you can think of it like that. As long as you are getting enough nutrients and calories, you should be fine.0

I don't do it simply because I'm a diabetic and it actually hurts my glycemic control.
When blood sugar drops below a certain level, the bodies response is to have the liver release more glucose (from glycogen stores) into the bloodstream. For whatever brilliant reason, my body is messed-up and my liver will ALWAYS dump way more glucose into my bloodstream than any meal I eat would contain, sending my sugars dangerously high.
So I eat roughly every 3.5 hours or so (except, obviously, when sleeping), to maintain more-stable glucose levels throughout my waking day.
Unless you have diabetes that also reacts this way (and not all diabetics have the ridiculous liver dump I do) - research shows it's safe skip meals if you want. (Bro-science says otherwise, but I prefer to stand by research).0 -
sometimes I will have a meal of "a yogurt and half a banana" then eat my brunchy lunch later. I can't function without food in the morning0

Being diabetic, I wouldn't do it for the same reasons AB stated - excepf for.the "bro-science" part0

I skip Breki almost everyday. I just cant stomach food at 5am
I have a HUGE Coffee..or 2..or 3 before work, and don't feel hungry until around 11am. So i class that as Brunch i guess.0 -
IF (Intermittent Fasting) is all about fasting for 14-18 hours and eating your full calorie amount in 6-10 hours. In other words, skipping breakfast. I eat from noon until 8 pm.0

I eat 2 meals a day. During the week it's breakfast and lunch and on the weekends it's breakfast and dinner. I get most of my nutrients and calories. I have light snacks in place of the skipped meal. It works for me and I lose slowly but steadily.0

If you are diabetic it is important for you to eat at regular times consistently on every day of the week. It isn't necessary for you to have 3 fulll american type meals but it is important for you to eat every 4-5 hours. Doesn't matter what time your first meal is but your breakfast..."break" "fast" is the most important meal of the day especially when you get your blood sugars stabilized and are waking up with blood sugars in the 80's where they are suppose to be. You should stop eating minimum of 3 hours before bed time and your evening fast..when you don't eat ..should be 12 hours long. You could look at having 4 mini meals instead of 3 meals. and see how that works for you. You should strive to get your blood sugars as level as possible through out the day.0

sometimes i eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sometimes I only eat breakfast and dinner. Sometimes I eat a sort of brunch-like meal and dinner. Sometimes I snack, sometimes I don't. But I always hit the same nutrient/calorie goals, and I think that this is what really matters. Some people eat dinner as early as 4:30 and some don't eat until 11, I don't think it really matters as long as everything gets in there eventually.0

I never eat breakfast0

It doesn't matter when you eat your calories!0

As long as you don't have any medical issues that it would cause issues with (diabetes & the like), I see no problem with it. Actually I'd recommend reading up on intermittent fasting. Pretty interesting ... I do it fairly often, not intentionally but there are plenty of people that do it & have nothing but good things to say about it.0
