Workout motivation help!!!

Hey everyone :)

I'm on my lifestyle change and I got the eating healthy and fresh foods down pat but the workouts not so much. The best time for me to workout is in the mornings before I go to work but the only problem is that I'm not a morning person at all! I have great plans the night before and really want to get up and do it but as soon as morning comes and the alarm goes off, I end up hitting the snooze button and sleeping through my workout time. I go to bed early so that I'll have 7 hours of sleep but I just hate getting up in the mornings. My days are so flexible that to do a normal routine in the afternoon or evenings are almost impossible to stick to because of work and other obligations.

I need help getting the motivation to get out of bed in the morning to workout. What do some of you guys say to yourself or do to give you that little push in the morning? Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks and have a great day!

I just stop making excuses and do it. Set goals and reach them.

I sort of *am* a morning person, so I'm not sure if my experience will be meaningful to you. Yes, I can get up easily in the mornings. But, I love my breakfast, relax time. I have to be at work at 8:00 on most days. Which means I need to be in the shower at 7:00. Which means I need to start exercising at 6:30 to get a 30 minute workout in. So I get up at 6:00, with is very natural for me (I go to bed at 10:00). I eat breakfast and play around on Facebook and on MFP, or I read for a while. Then I change and exercise. Jump in the shower. Get dressed. Go to work.

I'm generally doing three 30-minute workouts during my work-week, and two 45- or 60-minute workouts on weekends.

I'm the exact same way! But it's easier once you get into the routine. Granted I skipped a few days and fell completely off. Also helps if you working out with someone else. That way you have to get up.

I say to myself that I have a workout to do and then I get out of bed and go do it. Motivation is not required. I'll get out of bed to go to work. I'll get out of bed if my kid is crying. I'll get out of bed if I want a sammich. I'll get out of bed to pee. If I'll get of bed without needing special motivation for those things, why wouldn't I get out of bed to get into shape?

Motivation not magically falling out of the sky is not an acceptable excuse for missing a scheduled workout.

pretty much this. i know that if i don't work out early, i won't do it. i wake up at about 430am, because i need to sit and drink coffee while watching the news and getting dressed. by 530 i'm out the door to the gym/pool/running/cycling.

so.... move your fat lazy *kitten*!!!

I started with a workout friend. I knew she was going to be there waiting on me. And she would not be happy if I wasn't there. It worked! I went. Now I go because I can see a difference.

I put my alarm or phone on the other side of the room so I can't just reach over and shut it off.

Thanks for all the advice I'm getting and wow, it is straight to the point. I do have to point out that I lead a very active life, I live in Malaysia so it's always hot and next to a beach so I go swimming a lot, kayaking, trekking in jungles, mountain climbing and I even play gaelic football ( I don't know many Lazy *kitten* that climbed Mt. Fuji and Mt. Kinabalu and plays gaelic football but thank you for your words of encouragement ). I'm active every week just not everyday, And I want to learn how to get into and try out a steady routine. And I hate to say it but I have to talk myself out of not calling out of work in the mornings too ;) So the just do it saying helped a lot when I was tired of climbing Mt. Fuji and works really well when I want to stop and I push myself to keep going. I was looking for something a little more positive to get me going.

I really like the idea of setting the alarm on the other side of the room :)

I have the same trouble! I can do my work out in the evening after I finish work, no trouble. But when I want to do it in the morning? I still haven't managed! I just find it so much harder to get up and going in the morning!

Sorry that doesn't really help you since I have no magic tips to make it easier

im not a morning person and after 3 years of setting my alarm and snoozing it, I finally realized that it is not happening and if I really mean to work out, I need to find the time that fits w my personality and it wont make me hate it. I work out between work and home and weekends when kiddo is down for afternoon nap. im a big believer in making it a nice experience or else you wont stick to it. rather do less and enjoy it than force myself and hate it

I am a morning person and I use to think that I couldn't stick with working out after work. I workout after work because I do classes at a gym and can't take the am classes and still be to work on time. It's working for me... however I do not have small children and other responsibilities. In the summer and on breaks I'll be switching to am classes as I am a teacher and have summers off.
