I'm looking to start jump roping. I've heard it works out every part of your body and is a great workout. How long do I need to do it for and is it specific to a certain style/pace? Any advice would be great.

12-20 minutes should handle your business. You'll have to work on your pace, but eventually you should be around 150-200 jumps per minute

I usually will do it at the end of a lifting routine for about 10-15 minutes. Also: what davpul said.

I used to take a "punk rope" class....its was awesome. Major calorie burn...the way we did it in class was...you jump rope for 1 entire song...then the next song, we did a different type of workout....so it turned out to be every other song was jump roping. During the chorus of these songs-was when we jumped more intense...then during the verses, we calmed it down but continued to jump-we did regular jumping, backward jumping, heel jumps, mini kick jumps, etc....I have done jump roping at home but have stuck to that sort of routine.

If you haven't jumped rope for a long time, you need to ease back into it. Get a timer with a second hand or use your iphone's clock -- go for 15-30 seconds, then rest for a minute; do that for 15-20 minutes at first. Listen to your body. If you are so fit that you can jump rope for 15-30 minutes solid, you are already a machine! Good luck!

thanks! I just did it for 10 minutes in 30 second intervals while still marching in place during the "breaks". It was actually kind of fun! A great, quick workout.
