Cool fitness gadgets that are not expensive?

So I looked through the app gallery and found a monitoring armband that tracks your activity 24/7 and can then report the data back to My Fitness Pal (149.00$ plus monthly subscriptions) and a scale that can report back to the site also (costing over 100$) As wonderful as I'm sure these items are my bank account needs to gain weight as fast as I'd like to be losing it. I like using new technology but it doesn't seem affordable.

What are your favorite fitness apps or gadgets that are not too pricey?

I used to love pedometers but could never find an accurate one, so I gave up on them.
