can melatonin cause weight gain? cause i heard it does and i take it every night

Everything that I've read says that it actually promotes healthy sleeping patterns and reduces appetite.

Intake of melatonin was associated with a reduction of weight gain in animals receiving a high-fat diet
Intake of melatonin was associated with a reduction of food consumption in animals receiving a high-fat diet
Intake of melatonin was associated with a lowering of blood glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, atherogenic index and low-density lipoprotein levels in animal receiving a high-fat diet
In the obesity group, a significant positive correlation was observed between body weight, increased heart rate, SNA and blood pressure. In the melatonin-treated group, there was a significant positive correlation between reduced body weight, heart rate and SNA.
Granted these studies were done on animals eating a high fat diet and not on humans eating a moderate fat diet but I still think it's worth baring in mind0 -

I used to take melatonin every night and it never impeded my progress with losing weight. My rate of loss has been the same while taking it as it was when not taking it.0
