How to burn fat instead of muscle?

I started working out and lifting (though not religiously) to try & build some of my muscle back up that I lost when I quit working out last August. This time around, I am trying to bulk a little first and then do cardio to burn the fat. When I was working out last year, I was doing this in the opposite direction; losing fat first and then building muscle later. It worked out well, but I wanted to do it differently this time. I am 5'7 and 122 lb. I carry fat in my hips and lower belly. I am worried that once I start doing more cardio to burn fat, my muscle will burn off instead of the fat. My plan is to do 30DS after I am pleased with the muscle I build, and cross my fingers that it works. I would really like input from anyone out there who can give me some, any pointers or suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated

Lift and eat protein. Cardio is unnecessary, just eat at a deficit.0

Lift HEAVY and eat at a surplus.
30 DS won't help you build any muscle... it is a cardio routine.0 -
I realize that 30ds won't help me build muscle I am working on building now, but when I am done building I wanted to try 30ds to try & lose the little fat I do have. @justsome thanks for the suggestion0
