I've never tried this particular recipe, but I've made some other recipes from this site and they have been winners. This sounds good and simple. http://kalynskitchen.blogspot.com/2008/01/diet-friendly-ranch-style-dip-greek.html

Tzatziki! Try this recipe. Cucumber, garlic, dill, and lemon juice aren't very expensive calorie wise, so it's primarily based on the calories of the yogurt you choose.

ETA: LOL Kaitlin and I would pick a recipe from the same blog.

I like the T. Marzetti dips. The light ranch is GREAT for veggies. My hubby LOVES the light french onion, even better then the full fat one :)

Otherwize I agree with the Hummas and taziki posts ;)

What's everyone's favorite type of hummus? I never know which one I'll like the most and end up not buying any. I've had it several times at social events but usually don't see the packaging!

For a super low calorie dip - bake and eggplant (aubergine) whole until soft, scoop out the flesh and mash with a fork, mix with some black pepper and lemon juice :)

I like sun dried tomato hummus or roasted garlic hummus. I love dipping broccoli into it.

I make this dip and get compliments on it all the time - and it's so easy to make!

1 cup light mayonnaise (could also use fat free, but I don't think this tastes nearly as good)
    1.5 tsp curry

Stir together and enjoy - great with celery, cold cooked asparagus, carrots, etc!
*This recipe makes a lot, so sometimes I cut the ingredients in half.

I really like the Hidden Valley Ranch packets, added to fat free sour cream. You can add chopped dill or cilantro if you want, and I almost always add a little Tobasco, garlic powder, and black pepper.

I use Fage greek yogurt, add a tablespoon of the Ranch dip powder (very salty so don't add too much) then chop some fresh parsley and fresh garlic to it.

You can also buy store-made tzatziki that is delicious and low-cal... and ready to roll!!! (I am a convenience eater, so anything I don't have to make from scratch is a win in my book.)

I've never had tzatziki.. and I'm really puzzled trying to pronounce it! what brand do you buy? I am always a fan of convenience and the recipe the method shared looks tasty!

I'm not a linguist or speech therapist, but I've always pronounced tzatziki as "saw" (but say the "s" as if it were combined with a "d," with the tip of your tongue against the back of your front teeth) and then "ziki" is like saying the letter "z" ("zee") combined with a "d" again with the tongue thing, and then "key."

    So, d/saw-D/ZEE-key.

The second to last syllable in Greek is often where the stress it placed, so in this case the "D/ZEE."

I've never purchased store bought tzatziki that I liked, but that's probably because I was spoiled with always having it fresh from my Greek ex-boyfriend's family. :)

Also, it saves for a few days so make it on a Sunday and eat it the rest of the week.
  • Personally I enjoy the light Laughing Cow cheese wedges, in any flavor, especially yummy with celery or cukes. I try to only use 1-2 and ration it out with the veggies!

French Onion Dip. It's made with greek yogurt and laughing cow

  • HOME MADE hummus!!!

Take a can of chickpeas ( garbanzo beans ) rinse them, throw them in a food processor or blender, then add garlic, touch of vinegar and whatever else you want to taste!! I like to add a touch of olive oil, cayenne and lemon juice as well.

Touch of water for desired consistency.

It's super low in calories, VERY LOW glycemic index, you can cater it to your exact tastes, and it's CHEAP!!!

I used to mix Greek yogurt with hot mustard and tumeric.
  • Trader Joe's Reduced Guilt yogurt kale spinach dip. 30 calories per 2 tbsp serving--less than hummus which is 50 - 60 cals per 2 tbsp serving.
