Troy from Brisbane saying hello...

I don't know what to say, I have been on here counting my calories for four weeks and never even noticed that they had a forum.
I was clearly too busy counting my calories!
I am a young to middle aged married man of average weight that likes long walks on the beach and am seeking similar minded friends who together can walk beside me as I traverse the expanse... No, I am not really a beach person actually.
I am just here trying to lose a few kilograms so that I can be healthier. I am also using myfitnesspal to moderate my intake of bad foods so that I can continue to have bad foods until I die unlike so many unhealthier older people out there that are unable to have that naughty little treat that makes life worth living. I would hate not to be able to have a soft drink from time to time or to have to regulate my eating habits to the point where I wasn't allowed to have that cadbury cream egg or other special treat when I really desired it so rather than waiting until I am so unhealthy that this becomes my reality I am attempting to become slightly healthier now so that I can be slightly unhealthy for longer.
I wish you the best of luck in trying to be a little fitter and a little healthier so that you too can be a little unhealthy from time to time as you so desire!

Hi from the tropical north! This place will sort you out. Wish my hubby would use it too.0

Welcome to MFP!
Good luck on your goals, glad you have a realistic view on it all.0 -
Hello! Not often I see people living on this side of the world (most of my FL is from the US or Europe so they are asleep while it is my afternoon)!
You sound very realistic in your goals and while I like the beach, I think we see eye to eye on a few other things Like another poster, I wish my hubby would use MFP as he has gotten pretty lazy since we left the states.0 -
My wife is the one that got me on MFP. She has been on here for a while and once I tipped 100kg I decided it was time I joined too...
Good luck girls on getting your hubby's on here, I was very reluctant but don't write him off yet, miracles can happen!0 -
Hello from halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast (a nice bit, honest ).
Good luck with your pursuit of health ... I eat it all (chocolate, ice cream daily), I drink red wine like a fish if there were fish that liked red and the only exercise I get is walking (and some token bodyweight exercises). There are plenty of great walks around Brisbane and with winter coming it's an ideal time to get stuck in.
I like the coastal strolls myself ... Wynnum to Manly and back, that kind of thing.
Mount Coo-tha and Mount Gravatt also have some nice tracks. A bit of gradient too if you fancy it.
If I'm feeling adventurous then I'll drive down to Broadwater and hike out to the end of The Spit and back ... a long one but well worth it on a good day.
After work I extend my walk to a train station from Eagle Street through the Botanic Gardens, across to South Bank, down to the library then back up Grey St to South Bank station. By the time I get there work memories are gone ... love it.
Walk on and good luck man0 -
Hi Troy I'm also from Brisbane- Northside .
There are a few of us around- There's also a group for Aussies!
Good luck !0 -
Glad to see so many Australians on here.
I too eat chocolate, ice cream (particularly chocolate flavoured) and drink red wine like a fish, if indeed that fish can be found.
DeadVim, you are right, there is so much to do around Brisbane and the easiest way to lose weight is by doing exercise, not dieting. I told my missus this for a long time but unfortunately they were simply words because the action wasn't as forthcoming as I would have hoped. As I have gotten older I have found it harder to maintain the same active lifestyle and also the same weight although I have recently turned it around and am going to the gym every so often to pick up a weight and then put it back down again, in the name of health...
Anyway, I guess long story short, I am on here counting my calories until I lose a few kilos then I can up my caloric intake to normal (on average anyway) and just try and hover around that target weight, although whether I will be doing this with the aid of MFP or not I have not yet figured out. I think the real advantage that counting my calories is doing for me is helping me realise how many calories are in the foods that I generally eat and how much of that energy is broken down into carbs, proteins and fats. Now when I eat something or drink a soft drink or whatever it may be I have a sense of what is actually in that food or drink product. As a great man once said 'knowledge is power' or a greater man once said 'to be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge'. i am now conscious of my previous ignorance...0
