New runner, question about speed

On the couch 2 5k program, you jog, walk, jog, walk. I am only on day 2, I am really enjoying it by the way - but my question is about my speed. I'm averaging 10 mpm. Is that good for a beginner or do I need to pick up the pace? I'm pretty winded after the 1 minute of jogging but maybe I could go a little faster if I need to

10 minute miles are pretty good!

I run slower than that. I can feel good at a 10 minute mile for about half a mile. When I first started, I tried to do a 5 or 6 on the treadmill, and I realized this is what contributed to me getting winder/worn out faster and wanting to pack it in. now, I tell myself it's ok to run slower. I'm working, right now, and building up my endurance, putting in some speed where I can, and I'll get faster once I can run longer, if that makes sense. In other words, don't be afraid to start slow.My goal right now is to get to where I can average somewhere between an 11-12 minute mile for a full 5K.

Start slow, work on endurance now and once you build that up then focus on speed.

This is the right approach. Going for speed from the start will lead to injury.

    Happy running!
