If you have Celiacs Disease and purchase Gluten Free items, you are eligible for a tax deduction. You can be reimbursed for a portion of your expenses. Just found this out last week and I definitely utilized it!

Do you know if this works for sjogren's syndrome as well? My mom has it and as a symptom can not eat gluten because it swells her joints.

It falls under the "medical" deduction on your tax return. If you itemize your taxes and you purchase any special items for medical purposes, food, clothing, equipment, prescriptions, they can be tax deductible with very specific limits. Same goes for lactose-free milk or any other diet-specific food, however you have to be purchasing the stuff for a medical condition that has been diagnosed by a doctor under doctors orders.

This. So @GracieGirl, if you have documentation that she cannot eat it, then you can use it. Also, make sure to keep all of your receipts.
