So, I make daily video blogs on Youtube and recently I've been talking about trying to clean up my diet and eat better. Yesterday's video, I got a very ignorant comment. Let me just show you the conversation.
I looked at his Youtube channel and he had videos of himself posted, he was a very skinny guy, he had a shirtless video and he had no loose skin anywhere, it leads me to believe he's never had a problem with his weight.
I've spent months, if not years, researching weight loss and healthy living because I've struggled with being overweight my whole life. I'm pretty good with portion control, I weigh absolutely everything that goes in my mouth (unless it's a pre-measured, single serving package or something), I just have a problem with dedication and consistency. The fact that some skinny dude, who's probably never read a weight loss article in his life comes on my video, comments that I should eat 244 calories a day and survive off that just pissed me off so freaking bad, I was shaking I was so mad.
Why do [SOME] thinner people (or maybe even other bigger people) feel like they know more about weight loss than bigger people? Like their lack of fat makes their knowledge of health superior to us bigger folk?
[Edit]
Not ALL thin people feel this way. The ones that fat shame and say stuff like "put down the fork, fatty" or "just stop eating so much" without knowing or thinking or even caring what the bigger person is going through or already trying.
After I said the calorie count post, he commented again saying "yes youre right your3e burning way more calories than youre taking in....that's how you lose excess body fat." but somehow that comment disappeared from Youtube.EddieLongshanks77 19 hours ago
if you want to lose weight you just stop eating so muich eat a half banan for breakfast, some grapes for lunch, and a couple forkfiuls of chicken or beef for dinner, then some carbs like bowl of popcorn for snack

What you're describing to me is extremely low calorie crash diet, maybe 500 calories a day, at most, which is an extremely unhealthy way to lose weight and could end up hurting me more than helping me, in the long run.
I've gone on crash diets like this before, I lose weight, but I put it back on quickly because no one can survive off eating so low calorie for extended periods of time, even with great dedication.
And I've been vegetarian for almost 10 years so, no chicken or beef.

Half Banana = 35 cal
1 cup Grapes = 62 cal
1/2 cup Chicken breast = 116 cal (which I won't eat)
1 cup air popped popcorn = 31 cal
Total = 244 calories
Even without exercise, my body burns 2,182 calories a day just breathing, pumping blood, etc. If I was in a coma, they would feed me exactly this amount for me to maintain my weight.
I'm all for periodic fasting/restricting calories, but never more than 3 days. After 3 days, your metabolic rate will slow down, your body will become sluggish >>

<< your reflexes will become slower and your body will burn calories less efficiently.
I might be fat, but most fat people know how to lose weight, it's about applying what you know to what you do. You've obviously never studied anything about fitness and nutrition to suggest to someone to eat 244 calories a day and do well with that.
I have been trying to lose weight for years and I have read countless studies and articles on weight loss, fitness and nutrition.

<< Just because you are thinner than me doesn't make you know more than I do. You have obviously never had a problem with your weight so, you've never had a needed to research weightloss techniques. It's so easy to say "eat less" when I'm already cutting calories below what's recommended for me.

*shrug* hard to say. When I was thin, I never would have made a comment like what that guy posted. I had friends who where trying to lose weight and I never offered diet advice. The most I would do was ask them if they wanted to swim laps at the recplex or go walk a trail with me.0

Just brush it off. Most people recognize ignorance so they will see your replies and the other guy's and know he's being a jerk.0

Don't let it get to you. I get that ish a LOT. From people that either are skinny and never had any weight problems (and will eat whatever they want) as well as people that eat potato chips every day and go to the gym 4 times a month.
Shrug it off and continue your daily vlogs, girl!! (big YouTube / vlogger fan here! Going to VidCon in August!)0 -
Youtube is full of trolls. If you don't think their comment adds value, just ignore or delete, or disable comments.0

I suggest if you want to keep putting videos on youtube, you need to not pay too much heed to what people say in youtube comments. Save your sanity. :flowerforyou:0

It's the internet. Take the good with the bad. If people had to put actual money on their knowledge on weight loss, most would end up broke.

This is my first time being fat I used to be a hot little mexi chick. I am so scared to lose weight and have hanging skin lol SO um ......losing too fast is def NOT an option for me lol I love to feed my face so um......low calories and starvation are not an option for me lol My body tells me I am hungry for a reason lol PPL who have never gone through it dont take the time to talk to others who have for the most part. I try and ask as many questions as possible from ppl who have been through it or research stuff and then ask opinions. You always get those handful of *kitten* who have to share their 2 cents no matter if it pertains to the subject or not lol I wouldnt pay any mind to it state your opinions make sure to stand behind them and try and base them on facts or self experience. The proof is in the pudding...mmmmmm pudding lol0

I've gotten worse comments than this in the past. From "fat ugly b****" "lose some weight before posting a video fatty" "look at this fat d*ke lolol" "get a life fatass" ~ it's the fact that this one tried to give me a diet plan of under 250 calories a day and I can't help wondering if he honestly thought that's how you're suppose to lose weight.0

HA! I forgot to mention the most important part....I was one of those skinny fit ppl that saw fat ppl and was like.....gross stop eating fatty......and even as I got wider and wider I still carry that mentality lol Now that I am having to experience that way of life I will never say things like that again, of course if I see a faty at the buffet line and they have 3 pcs of chicken and heaps of other food and it is their 3rd trip I will probably still think it but instead of saying something mean to break them even more I might have some cards made up with info on how to join here with a little message of my begin and end weight. Sometimes having a friend or bringing the issue to light can change lives.0

unfortunately there are insecure people that like to hide behind their computers and make fun of people and stuff. Blow it off, it's only one loser0

Your problem is that Youtube is 90% arseholes and 10% normal people.
Could be worse; it could have been Twitter and then your arsehole to normals ratio is about 99/1.0 -

That's problem with the weight loss community. There are so many "expert" people out there trying to give advice. I get sick of hearing it. I usually have to answer comments as snide as those with the following: "Until you have some letters after your name and bona fide credentials, you're best off not giving advice because the advice you offer could be harmful."0
