Elliptical Speed and Distance

My home elliptical, don't remember brand, has speed or rpm and distance. I'm trying to figure out what "speed" is. I don't use the RPM, as I'm not sure how they calculate out. I was at 11.1 this Am for speed and I did it 45 minutes, with part of that a slower warm up at 9 or so and it said my distance was 9. I'm assuming that 9K, not 9 miles, I run at normal speed about 9 mpm. I'm curious also to know what the elliptical miles are compared to running mile - like biking is 2:1 for body use.

I don't believe that ellipticals can read speed accurately. Since people of different heights use them and the pedals range are fixed, a person who has a longer stride, compared to a person with a shorter stride may not get the same speed reading, but out on the road a taller person can take less steps than a shorter person and still run at the same speed.
