The elliptical and HIIT

So - if I get on the elliptical and do intervals of 2 minutes each of resistance 8, then 2 minutes of resistance 14 - would that be considered a form of HIIT. I know that when I do my level 14 for the two minutes - it is pretty hard for me - and my heart rate is around 160 versus the resistance 8, where my heart rate is 140's to 150's.

What say you?

I do this interval elliptical for 50 minutes.

I'd say that is just intervals. HIIT is more like 90% intensity then >40% intensity, in my understanding. So like a sprint then a walk. Burpees and rest...etc.

Maybe do 16 for 2 minutes, then 6 for 1...or something...

What I do is click on the interval option on the treadmill and change the intensity/crossramp. 1:30 seconds balls to the wall with a higher cross ramp/intensity and 30 seconds lower.

Yes it is just intervals. True HIIT cannot be done for more than 12-15 minutes tops. Not saying it isn't a bad workout, but it isn't HIIT.
