New York in May - where to eat

Good afternoon / morning

I'm coming to NY in May for a long weekend and was hoping to get some suggestions as to good places to eat. I've done the googling etc but would love to get some recent opinions from people who have been there / live there.

I'm not looking for healthy places per say - I'm looking for the tastiest places etc  anything that people think shouldn't be missed.

I'd love opinions on the best place for hot dogs and pizza, plus It's my dad's 60th while we are there (a Sunday) so if you can suggest anywhere nice that's not too pricey for a nice lunch/dinner that would be great.

(no dietary restrictions so don't worry about veggies etc)

Thanks :drinker:

Have some Pee-Zaah for sure! I don't know where, but have been told, its the best Zaah in the world. Could you have a piece for me?? Have fun! Enjoy your foods, whatever you have. Would love to have your comments on the pizzah. Come back and let us know what you ended up trying.

It's been a few years since I've been there, but here is an excellent resource.

It's NYC, there are literally 1,000 of great places to eat. When I go there I just walk around until something catches my eye

My husband and I ate at Alfredo's one of our nights there, home of the original fettucine alfredo. Comes in a very small looking serving, but it was impossible for me to eat all of it because it was so rich!

In many years of business travel, I've always found the pizza to be overrated.

When I go out to Connecticut to see my SIL and BIL, we always spend sometime in the city. I've eaten at many great places, but I never neglect to go to Carmine's. We always, always, always go to Carmine's. We usually go to the one on Broadway before or after a show.

JG Melons on corner of 77th and 3rd. A great burger place. Tough to get a table though, so go during the "odd" hours.

Latanzzi on 46th st between 8th and 9th.. Very fancy Italian restaurant on "restaurant row." Outstanding yet a little pricy.

Also, the restaurants on the same street (aka restaurant row) as Latanzzi are some of the best in the city, so check them out as well. Make reservations ahead of time though!

As far as pizza goes, you can't go wrong with the touristy ones like Lombardi's (downtown), Patsy's, Grimaldi's, Ray's (Famous?, Original??, Famous Original????). You can also just try a random hole in the wall place somewhere. Sometimes those are the best. Honestly though, if you really want good NY pizza, try to venture into Brooklyn if you can. Manhattan is a little overrated in that department.

I know this is myfitnesspal and all, but you HAVE to have at least one soft serve cone from a Mister Softee truck! It's the best soft serve ice cream I've ever had!

Also try Fagiolini on 40th! It has great italian food and reasonably priced too! Also, try Shun Lee West if you're in the mood for Chinese food!

I was actually in NYC last week. Now I'm in boring SoCal :grumble:
Someday after I finish college and have money saved up and a job I would love to go back and live there . I always have an amazing time when I go!
