Peanut Butter and Headaches

Peanut butter has always given me heartburn. A glass of milk, and I was good to go. But, I have noticed lately that everytime I eat peanut butter I get a nasty headache! Like right now. I had pb about an hour and half ago. All of a sudden I feel like somebody hit with in the head with a brick... and it's making me sick to my stomach.
Could this maybe be an allergy? Peanuts themselves don't seem to bother me, only when processed into peanut butter. And aren't peanut allergies pretty severe? I'm not having trouble breathing, or any other anaphylactic symptoms really.
Curious if anybody else has this sort of reaction?

I have never had any reaction to PB but it does sound like you are having an allergic reaction and as with any allergy it really depends on the person on how bad it really is. I would get it checked out or just stop eating PB might be something they add into the PB. You could try natural PB with nothing added and see if that still gives you the headaches. Just a thought. Good Luck!!0

headaches can be caused by an allergic reaction.
I would avoid the peanut butter until you have a chance to find out if you are allergic or sensative.0 -
Peanut butter is my down fall. I love peanut butter I craved it when I was pregnant with my first daughter. I ate it so much that my daughter smelled like peanut butter. Now if I eat peanut butter and jelly together I get a major heartburn.0

I read somewhere you can develop and allergy to peanut products. Try some almond butter and see if you get a headache from that. I got my friend who is allergic to peanut products hooked on the stuff and she loves it as much as me!0

Look into the brand of peanut butter you are consuming....mine has peanuts only.0

Sounds like a good reason not to eat peanut butter anymore! :laugh:0

I have noticed headaches also today after having a peanut butter sandwich. However, I did not consume enough water, so it is most likey the reason for me. Are you staying hydrated??0

Not all allergic reactions present with anaphlyaxis...I'm allergic to mushrooms and wind up barfing for 3 days; no breathing issues. same with bee stings. Soy gives me some rather unpleasant gastrointestinal issues...not quite an allergy, but could turn into one, so I now avoid soy. And danged if soy isn't in a lot of things now...
You might not be allergic to peanuts yet but prolonged exposure could flip a switch and you could become allergic. PB can give a lot of non-allergic people heartburn, but the headaches could indicate you have more going on with it than simple PB-induced reflux.
I'd avoid it, personally. Even if it's not yet an allergy, what's the point in inflicting misery upon yourself?0 -
What a terrific reason to pop a vicoden!
Perhaps you have a bad batch of PB?
I would do a controlled test. Eat a normal day's diet. No headache? Next day eat the exact same thing but add a PB saurnrich. Headache?
Does sodium give you a headache?
I used to get headaches all the time, but since my diet has been under control for a month, no headaches!0 -
I'm having the same reaction right now. I've been getting headaches especially first thing in the morning. That's every day so my doctor asked me to keep a headache diary and take a medication. If I look at my food journal it does seem that I eat peanut butter I get a headache but not every time. I guess I should try cutting it out of my diet. I never really thought I could be allergic but it would be nice to go a day without a headache.
Oh by the way I've lost 60lbs since before I started My Fitness Pal! Could that have something to do with it?0 -

If you're not having a problem with regular peanuts, you might be having a problem with an additive. Or, possibly with too much salt, if you don't eat your peanuts salted.0
