Reducing Sugar Intake

I am a 24 year old student who shares an apartment with her grandmother. I have been using MFP for just under three months now. In that time I have started working out regularly (4-5 times a week) and stopped snacking at night. My next challenge is to reduce the amount of sugar I consume. My grandmother always keeps sweets in the apartment and for the most part I can avoid them but sometimes I really struggle with it and give in. I am just wondering what strategies others have used to avoid the snacking. I was also wondering what food substitutions others have made for breads and pastas as well as which fruits are high/low in sugar content. Any advice is welcomed.

Berries especially are the lowest in sugar content, as well as being high in fiber and antioxidants. They're a great choice for fruit snacking (can't wait for summer for all of the local berries to come into season!). I love strawberries with some crumbled goat cheese (Trader Joe's Blueberry Vanilla goat cheese, if I have it) drizzled with some good balsamic vinegar for dessert. Yum yum yum.
I've also cut almost all bread and pasta out of my diet. For the most part, I haven't replaced it with anything, I just don't eat those foods. I guess I have sort of replaced pasta - when my husband and kids want spaghetti for dinner, I'll usually make myself spaghetti squash or zucchini and eat it with the pasta sauce. It's not comparable to actual pasta noodles in terms of taste/texture, but it still tastes good. Plus, I replace some of the pasta calories with mozzarella cheese calories - I'll always take that trade off.
