How to know if you've overdone it and what to do about it?

I have been working out 45 mins per day 5 days a week. I did some heavy yardwork yesterday for a few hours with rest breaks. Today, I just did 20 mins of cardio jogging in place on my rebounder but I'm afraid that I could have done more harm than good. I don't want to sabotage myself with my enthusiasm LOL I am just a little sore and thought (read it somewhere on here) that a bit of cardio might help with my muscle soreness. Any info or advice would be great! Thanks!
