They have Polar HRM at Target for about $60 that comes with a chest strap.. I've heard all kinds of good things about them but never used one. Personally I have a watch from Walmart that was like $30 but it works pretty good to determine your heart rate. Not sure I trust the calorie counter on it though. So I just use a heart rate based calories burned calculator to estimate. I was broke at the time so I didn't have many options. But nearly everyone on the boards say to get one with a chest strap for the best accuracy so if you can find one that is affordable with a chest strap, it'd probably be the best thing to get.
Edited to add: Just read a review on the Polar and they said it doesn't count calories but the item description says it does. May want to do a little research to see if it does or doesn't if you decide to buy it.0 -

I have a Polar ft7. Have had it for a year with no problems. Polar has a great reputation. Make sure you get something with a chest strap its more accurate as a HRM and calorie counter.
Good luck!0
