Humbling day on squats

My wife (Lana) and I lift together and have both been making progress on our Upper/Lower split.

Today was the Heavier leg day.
When I got up this morning I looked at my wife and said "My hamstrings are still really sore, this is gonna suck" and "lets try to go a little lighter today and do all of our squats *kitten* to grass"
WOw, that hurt. I had to take 100 pounds off of my squat weight to get well below parallel and Lana had to take off almost the same. I had her try box squats because it was hard for her to get low enough.
I have always squatted till my hamstrings are parallel to the ground but I really buried them today and it was A LOT harder.

How many of you get really low and how many stop just below parallel? I know there has been much debate on this topic but I never knew it made such a huge difference in the lift. I went from being able to take 275 for a few good reps to really having to grind out 185 for 6. Am I cheating myself by just breaking parallel?

Lana had to step all the way down from 2 reps at 185 to 65 for 8. It was a great workout but man was it humbling. Lana took it a lot harder than I did.
