Hi ya'll
I am thinking about buying a chin-up bar. Does anyone know if you can use this on a stud wall?
Thanks, xHx

Depends which kind. I got one on Amazon and it works great: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TYJMV2/0

I'd be more inclined to buy one that locks through the doorway, like this:

I'd be concerned about pulling the other kind of pull-up bar out of the studwork.0 -

The one I use comes with some pretty large lag bolts. So far it's fine but then we don't weight a lot - I'm 155 and my wife is 100 lbs. We don't have a doorway anywhere near our exercise room except for an exterior door.0 -
Thanks both, we have stud walls and need versatile use of space so a temporary structure would probably work best. It comes down to physics with how load bearing our walls are. I am 5'6", currently 158lbs and going down, endomorphic, and aiming to shed fat and build muscle. Hubby is 150lbs, 6'1, lean, and building. Think this should do the job though - fingers crossed
Cheers :drinker:0 -
The P90X chinup bar is a doorframe mounted unit meant for easy removal when not in use. It is essentially a copy of the Iron Gym Extreme. If you are willing and able to permanently mount one to your wall or ceiling there are MUCH better options. Especially when you get into P90X2 (if you choose to ever do it) as many of the pullup variations they have you doing in P90X2 cannot safely be done on a doorframe unit because the way you move you can actually jar it free, leading to falling and injury. If you want a doorframe specific unit, the best one currently on the market (as far as build quality goes) is the Astone Fitness one.
Note that doorframe mounted units have inherent disadvantages in that your form is compromised for most pullup variations. Your range of motion is nowhere near what it would be if you weren't working within the confines of a doorframe.0 -
I have recently started crossfit and the facilities are ace for quality of equipment but I wanted something that would give me the capacity to practice at home - no kipping, don't worry, so no jumping the bar off the frame. This should be great for toes to bar and similar hanging around stunts though hopefully0

If thats the case then I definitely recommend the Astone Fitness one. It is the best quality doorframe-mounted unit on the market and it is cheaper than the official P90X one.
