Airbrush tans

So since I'm not going to be bikini ready by our trip to Fl in June, I'd like to at least look tan in a cute retro one peice. After all, tan fat looks better than pale fat! Several salons near me offer airbrush tanning, one I even have a gift card to and can get it done for free!

Has anyone done the airbrush type before? Where a technical hand sprays it on you with an airbrush gun? I've heard these are much better than the booths. Anyways, I'm super pale (see profile pics lol) so I'm thinking of doing a "trial" one in a few weeks...and if it looks good, doing another before our trip, I've tried a few lotion types but they only looked good for a day or two then faded with streaks.

I have! Just wear a bathing suit or whatever and they spray your whole body. Make sure you talk old sweats and a sweat shirt that can get stained. You can't bathe for 24 hours and I'd say do it 3-4 days before you leave for your trip so the color settles. This is a great way to tan.

hi there! I have had a few of them for weddings and functions and they really are fab! They last for about 4 - 5 days and are really good at disguising lumps and bumps =)

I will try and attach a pic here later to show you the difference. I made a few mistakes prior to having my first one but when you prepare properly...the results are fantastic!

I will say...they make you smell of digestive biscuits ( a benefit if you want to be out off munching biscuits..lol) But this wears off when you have your first shower!

Have the spray tan in the afternoon a day before you want to show it off. You must wash off the initial spray tan about 11 - 18 hours after your appointment (Don't worry...you wont be washing off any important colour)

Shave your legs and bits a day before your appointment...even longer before if possible, because the tan will sit in your pores and stand out.

Have your spray tan done in the least amount of clothing...I usually only wear a thin pair of knickers or a thong...nothing on top...beauticians have seen everything before so dont worry about baring it all.

Exfoliate as much of your skin as possible when you shave a few days before...this helpes the tan stay on your skin and ensures that it is done evenly.

The salon should do this anyway, but put barrier cream (moisturising cream) on the palms of your hands and around your ankles...this stops the tan settling in creases!

Ask around for the best place the get a tan! Go with the most popular place, even if it means spending a little more =)

Don't go too dark...usually salons have 3-5 different shades...if you are pale (like me) go for the lightest one they have...trust me, the results will still be fantastic!

Hope this info has helped...will try and post pictures soon x

    where are you from?

I know a few people who get them every week to keep the colour! Once these build up, the need to visit the salon gets less! x
  • Thanks for the tips! I'm going to try it in a few weeks, then go back right before our vacation if it turns out well. I know it probably won't last the whole week though since we're leaving Fri and returning the following Saturday. Does it look weird when it fades back to pale? I'm most concerned about that. Also, is using sunscreen and being in salt water all week going to affect it?
