I Keep going over my calorie limit!

I have been doing good on my progress, I have always been on target, it's just that for the past week or so, I have been going over my calorie limit a lot, like 300 - 600 calories at a time. I have managed to burn these extra calories on the treadmil, but does it have the same effect, since these extra calories have already been consumed?
