Why are you avoiding meat?
Other than ethical reasons there are health reasons. Some people believe it, some people don't. If you are interested I would suggest reading "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. It has a lot of information about why we consume too many animal products. You can also look up the "China Study" where they studied cancer rates among mostly veggie eating cultures versus meat eating ones.0 -
Try to have more fish in your diet, and keep protein higher... more like 100g a day. 50g a day is pretty low (MFP gives bad recommendations). There is no problem with not having much red meat, I generally have it once, maybe twice a week.
I do this through 'weight down' protein shakes. They don't make you lose weight, but rather are low cal. Mine is about 78cals for 15g protein a serve which is pretty good I think.
p.s. Kale is good and all, but if you have a history of thyroid disorders it is better to stay away from it from what I've heard.0 -

I wasn't trying to start a debate on whether or not one should eat meat.... BUT since you brought it up. The China Study was debunked years ago and holds very little weight when making decisions regarding overall health.0 -
I'm with ya hun meat is a no no for me. I have no health basis for this, I just find dead flesh icki (to which my husband usually replies..."I'll feed you a live cow if you like"...)
(NVM Find diary)
The other guy is right, 50 g protein is likely too lowDon't know what your fat ratio is either but it's likely a bit whacky if you're not getting enough protein. I see over 112 on the most recent day so perhaps that is fixed.
That being said our doctor once told me what he hated about vegetarians "you eat too much cheese". Don't know if it's a problem for you but watch the saturated fats.
I get plenty of protein at 110-150 g a day with my macro set to 25% minimum. (I always tell people if I weren't veg I'd go 30%)
You need to focus on nonfat greek yogurts, eggs or egg whites (depending on where you want to get your fat later in the day), bread that has protein and low sodium in it (Alvarado sprouted no salt added wheat bread, carb 0 or paleo bread), almond butter yum yum (watch the fat), fat free cheese IN MODERATION, steel cut oatmeal or regular oatmeal has some protein, protein shakes (I put strawberry protein shake in plain oatmeal its YUMMY esp w/ some fruit), and fake non soy meat products like Quorn and Field Roast. I will occasionally eat soy based subs like Yves Lightlife and Morningstar, but enjoy the flavor and lack of soy (cancer risks with too much) in Quorn and field roast.
I do eat soy, just less as I was eating it like 5 times a day before.
Be careful, it is easy to knock your fat well past 30% as a vegetarian trying to get protein so watch carefully before you eat! I do see you eat fish so that would help!
Lastly, having flaxseed daily in my oatmeal or greek nonfat yogurt seems to have helped a lot with some health things going on. We don't get the omega 3's as easily as those with fish oil or fishPerhaps you are though with fish going more pescatarian.
Not sure if you consider greek yogurt processed but there are many types with 5 ingredients. Also paleo bread has like 7 ingredients and isn't considered imo processed.
You look beautiful in that dress0 -

No debate hereTo each their own. I have read quite a bit on the China Study, both sides. I can see its.flaws but I still believe the general principal is correct. Plus, numerous other studies have show we are just not supposed to eat as much animal products as we do. It makes sense to me.

We're in the same boat (except with the PETA thing lol) but yes to the gagging part. I haven't eaten meat since biology baby fetal pig dissection. That was THE end for me.
Also have trouble with egg whites occasionally (hence the protein shake in the oatmeal) because sometimes I psych myself out. I'm trying very very very hard NOT to go vegan. It would be a PITA (not peta) to go vegan haha!0 -
