Not eating enough during the day.

I have just had a major eating session. I believe the problem is that I just did not eat enough during the day. Once I started eating tonight I could not stop. Is there a standard calories goal that you all try to eat for breakfast and lunch to remain satisfied?

    Hi Welcome To MFP :flowerforyou:
    A number of members break their days up into 5-6 small meals or 3 main meals and 2 snacks in between. By eating about every 2.5 hours it seems to help out alot with getting in that carb/protein combo so you don't get urge to overeat. By spreading out your cals/carbs/proteins/fats etc. it keeps the metabolism boosted and your blood sugars more leveled out. Lots of advantages to the smaller spread out meals.

    Just figure out whichever way you decide to do your meals by taking what MFP gives you for allotted cals and dividing them up allowing yourself that much at each meal. Make sense? :flowerforyou:

    You'll get the hang of it and your body will get in the groove:wink: You can also do time slots instead of naming the meals if that makes it simpler for you.

    I second that, great advice. It's what I've been doing and its the most healthy sustainable way to eat with less chance of falling of the wagon.

    I am currently allotted 1760 calories a day without exercise (am set on 1/2 pound a week loss) and I will eat those over about 16 hours of being awake. Since without exercise, I do pretty similar stuff all day, I figure I should eat them more or less evenly throughout the day. Which means about 110 calories an hour...so every 2-3 hours I have a 200-300 calorie meal.

    What that means is by the time I finish work, given I get up at 7 and finish work at 5, I have been up for 10 of my 16 hours, so should have eaten about 1100 calories already.

    I don't always hit that as I still tend to have relatively high-calorie dinners but it's a lot more than I ate during the day previously...

    My main problem at nights though is the emotional/boredom/stress eating more so than the hungry eating. I eat because its habit, or because my flatmates are, or because I'm stressed, etc etc. And that's usually when I eat more than I want/need :s Still working on that one!

    I eat most of my calories before 3:00 pm. I have a big breakfast or lunch every day and a smaller dinner. Usually dinner is meat and veggies with maybe a piece of toast. Then, I make sure to eat dinner before 7:00 and don't eat anything else. Every person is different but this works for me. I used to be a big-time night snacker and now I'm not.

    Definitely, spread your meals/calories throughout the day. It helps a lot. And make sure the meals are balanced (carbs+protein).

    I eat 4 times a day, and my meals range between 300 and 400 calories. It's actually amazing how much food that makes once you start paying attention to the calories and MAKE IT A GOAL to squeeze as much nutrition into the given meal calories as possible. :wink: If you count the calories, please don't get tempted to eat junk foods or sugars (or at least make it a very rare thing). I strongly believe as we eat cleaner foods (veggies, fruit, protein, some grains) our bodies get more and more efficient at getting rid of toxins and stored fat. :happy: Just think about it-- any soft drink, or even juice can be a meal by itself in terms of calories, but you get nothing nutritious out of them.
