Gait analysis

Friend said he wanted to start running, so rather than let him start with a tatty old pair of fashion trainers, I dragged into a specialist shop this morning.
'Encouraged' (practically shoved) him into having his gait filmed and analysed. I won because I said I thought he over pronates on one side, which he does (smug, much? ) and whilst he was paying for his Brooks, I got mine analysed for the first time (in neutral shoes).
Found out that, whilst I do still over pronate a bit, by the back of the step, I'm straightening back up again. Something that has definitely improved from when I started. And means I don't need motion control shoes anymore, stability ones being more appropriate.
Anyhow, the point of this warble is to say that everybody should get their gait reanalysed every so often, as it told me a lot about progress, that I need to strengthen my ankles more (heel lifts, anybody?), but that my technique is actually pretty darn good and what shoes suited me when I first hauled myself off the couch aren't the ones best for me now.
And, because they flicked the treadmill up to a proper running speed, instead of the walk my friend was a little unsteady on, everyone in that part of the store now knows that 240lb 40 year olds can run like The Terminator. :glasses:

Interesting post!
I got my gait analysis done back in June last year but I was walking at that time. I think I should do it again while running. Currently I am using asics gels shoes for support. In the video they seem to support but my achilles tendons still hurt.:sad:0 -
