Pre-Workouts

I just wanted to know others opinions on pre-workout powders/drinks. Are the helpful or just a waste of money?

For those who do like them, do you have any recommendations?

I like them. I am not sure which is the best, you may have to experiment, but I do like this product called D-stunner which has little to no tolerance build up.
I know people will say just drink a cup of coffee. I do like the taste but it doesn't have nearly the energy kick as the pre-workouts. To get the best bang for your buck, limit the amount of caffeine you consume during the day and week. Try to only take caffeine pre-workout and not during your rest days.

Try taking a caffeine tab before working out instead. It's considerably cheaper.

Thank you! I wouldn't use it on rest days. I am not even sure I would use it during the week for workouts. I tend to have more time on the weekend to spend in the gym so I would likely only use it then :)

Have you ever tried them before? I usually have about 2 cups of coffee a day, so I wonder if it would still give me a boost.
  • I use them occasionally, but I really don't notice that big a difference other than feeling like I can work out longer.

Feeling like I can work out longer is not a bad thing :)

I like them but they will work better if you can cut out other sources of caffeine like those coffees.

I have used/do use Cellucor C4 and have tried others but C4 is pretty much my favorite. I don't use it all the time on workout days but when I do, as long as I have been relatively caffeine free, it gives me a noticeable boost. Whether that is actual chamical boost or psychosomatic doesn't matter to me since it works either way.

Jack3d or Craze are good but BEWARE.... they are not for lightweights. If you're not a regular coffee drinker then the powerful stimulant effect may be too much at first and for the love of whatever you hold sacred start with ONE ... just ONE scoop. You'll do cardio for hours, clean your house, do your taxes and cook elaborate dinners with all the extra wiry energy. Also... and this is important; take a few weeks to a month off after you finish a jar.

In order to answer this I would need to know are you looking for something to give you energy or something that is gonna give you a good pump during a weightlifting workout?

Most pre workouts are stimulants. If you need a stimulant to work out, then you need more rest.

This is likely very true. I should sleep more.

I switched from pre-workouts to straight caffeine once the PWOs started making me sick.

2 cups np. Caffeine will be out of your system by workout time. Usually. 3-4 hours.

Also, pretty sure Craze doesn't have much for stimulants.
