I don't feel like I've lost anything!

I've been doing Jazzercise now for almost a month, but I've been watching my intake even longer than that. My mother, way before she passed away, was always so into exercise and being healthy. However, she was the same way; she felt as though she would never lose anything but would always be gaining.

Could it be that the way I'm thinking about this is making my weight stay the same? Or do I just need better motivation? How can I ensure that I don't let myself slip and start eating more than I can handle?

At this point, I'm thinking I should just give up ):

I never understand when people say they are giving up. Giving up and going back to what exactly? overeating and not working out? Why? you should be exercising regardless of your weight loss goals....you sleep every day, you shower every day, you work out every day.

How much are you eating? how much are you burning? How much do you have to lose?

I found that my thinking definitely hinders my progress. Keep your thoughts positive.

Don't give up! You may be gaining muscle, which is why you don't feel like you're losing anything. Do you feel more toned? Do you measure yourself? The inches may be shifting even if the scales are telling you there's no change.

Keep at it! I started dieting about 8 weeks ago, and have been doing Zumba almost every day. I'm the same weight as I was when I started, it makes me feel really depressed every day when I weigh myself, but I'm definitely more toned, and have lost 3 inches around my waist and hips. Plus I feel more healthy and my resting pulse is much lower. I'm noticing all these other differences and trying not to put too much weight (scuse the pun!) into what the scales tell me.

Keep going, I'm sure your mum would be very proud of you for making such an effort to improve your life.
  • I do feel more toned. I looked at my arms this morning after a jazzercise class last night, and I noticed that they aren't as jiggly anymore. The same goes for my legs! People have told me that the stomach/abdomen area is the absolute LAST place that weight loss will be seen, but I'm not sure if this is true...

Weight loss tends to start from the top and work down. You might find your face is less full, maybe others will start to comment on it as you may not notice yourself. Arms are definitely one of the first places you'll notice the difference. I've lost weight around my stomach, stopping drinking helps! Plus Zumba is a really good abdominal workout, as I'm sure is Jazzercise. So just keep going, you'll notice little differences all the time. Getting compliments from others is always a good motivator too!

When you're really just starting out, it can just seem daunting. I don't know how much you have to lose but break it down into mini goals if needed.

I was very overwhelmed when I started. I have a total of 130 pounds to lose and now I only have about 45ish to go!

    My next mini goals are:
12 pounds to get to 100 lost (my ticker needs updating)
14 more to get to normal weight!
Finally, 20 more to get to my goal!
  • My goal is to go from 209 lbs. down to at least 170 lbs.

Forget the stupid scale. I'd take looking better, and feeling better, over a number on a scale any day. People can SEE your hard work on your body. People do not care about what size you are or the number on the scale.

P.S. Re-read my comment. Did not mean to come across so blunt. You are doing great because you are getting results that matter the most! :drinker:
  • I'm just waiting for the Summer time. I'm going to be going on runs, jogs, and doing jazzercise. Honestly, I feel like I'm playing a game. "How much can I lose before school starts up again?"
