HRM READING 216

Although I regularly go swimming and do a bit in the gym. I recently started doing some military style fitness training and after a session looked at the reading on my HRM and it read max 216 (I am female, 5'6", 42 and 221lbs) I felt great whilst training, although obviously tired with no chest pain or anything. Anyway, my hubby thought this was high and so I went to see the nurse and she said it is fine. Although when I have looked on the internet on a few sites it says it is too high. What do you lot think? Thanks

If you could keep going and your heart didn't explode into a billion little pieces, you're fine. HRMs are toys, not licensed medical devices. If you have a preexisting heart condition or have other signs of a medical problem then don't hesitate to see a doctor, who will examine you with a real medical device and not something made by Polar and shipped via Amazon.0

I have a Polar FT7 and try not to take it too seriously. Mine has gotten to 184 and stayed there for 10 minutes or so; typically in a really good workout I stay at 135. (I'm 60 so I don't overdo it.) I woudl think that if my hesrat rate were at 185 for an extended period of time I'd be gasping or wheezing or something. I wasn't.
Trust your body. not the HRM.0 -
They're also not good for certain exercises. Sometimes when I do hill sprints with mine on it goes nuts. During the rest periods it'll shoot all over the place: 200, 120, 160, 100 etc. Sometimes I think it can't keep up when your heart rate is rapidly changing.
I wouldn't worry about it. Like Dav said it's not a medical device. It's just a tool.0 -
Thanks for replies, much appreciated. I shall continue with the training, now I know I'm not going to have a heart attack lol and listen to my body0
