Does anyone here do it? How much is it going to take out of me?
The instructors argue that where we are is one of the toughest places to dive (East coast of Scotland) because of the strong currents and water temperature.

I've only done it once with the ful gear. The flippers do most of the work. When you swim with them it's a very even, controlled movement you want. You use your knees as a hinge and keep everything else relaxed, very unlike normal swimming. You don't want to get yourself out of breath and panting with the mask on. So I would say it's easier.
But I've been swimming on the NE coast since I was a nipper, and I can vouch for the instructor on the water temperature. You will expend a lot of energy just keeping warm. My sister took hypothermia in that water, she was treading water while waiting for a turn on her surf board, which was a silly thing to do.0 -
