EXERCISE AND PROTEIN HELP!

I have been told to take a protein shake after I work out. But I cant make it to the gym until about 9:30-10 sometimes. Does this matter? Should I skip dinner and drink it after or what? Or should I just take it in the morning?

Unless it would keep you from getting a good night's sleep, I think you're fine drinking it after you work out.
And I don't think you need to skip dinner for it. :)

It's important to get enough protein in your diet.
It *should* be possible to do it with "real" food.
That said, I have trouble, and do use a protein shake to supplement.
But I've never heard any evidence that *when* you take it (post workout, for breakfast, etc.) is important.
And I agree with Loki -- I don't think it has to impact your dinner, as long as it fits your macros.

So take it whenever works for you. (IE: doesn't affect your sleep, or your workout, or whatever. I have trouble doing cardio on a full stomach).

Unless someone would care to post EVIDENCE that it's important to take it post workout.

I've read (although it could have been misinformation, but it was from a few different sources) that having protein after your workout is good for any breakdown in muscles, etc. that occurs during your workout. Also, your body continues to burn calories after your workout, so for both reasons, it's good to have protein post-workout. I'm guessing if your evening workout routine is not impeding you from sleeping, then having a protein supplement (i.e. shake or protein bar) on your way home from the gym will not hinder your sleep, etc. You could always try and see if it works for you! :)
