Symbionts! I want to know which bacteria are the ones who eat carnitine. It would be interesting to look at the gut microbiota of vegans who eat red meat over a period of time, to see if they gain bacteria that consume carnitine, or not.
I vaguely recall research that showed the lipopolysaccharide portion of the gram negative bacterial cell wall being transported through the gut wall along with dietary fat and triggering a systemic immune response because we have toll-like receptors for lipopolysaccharide.0 -
