Weights or No Weights??

I take a zumba class 2-3 times a week. For the past year I have been using 2 lb hand weights (1lb each). I recently bought 4lb (2lb each) I have been using them I feel a difference definitely but doable. Anyway I put my car in the shop and left my gym bag in it, so I did class with no weights, I wear a HRM and my calorie burn was nearly 100 more than usual. Last night I used my weights and my burn was down again.

So my question is do you think the weights are causing the difference and if they are should I use them or not?

Log of my recent burns- 475, 485, 554*, 467
*no weights

I am in no way a professionnal, but I guess that if you carry weights, then you're doing more efforts than carrying nothing, so you're burning more calories (?). it does make sense (to me at least LOL)

And the heavier your weights are, the more you should burn calories I think

I'd repeat the experiment and not be shocked if I didn't get the same result. But I'd ditch the weights if I did. I don't know why it would work out that way, unless you have more of a bounce in your step without the weights and your legs are getting a better workout. That's where the big muscles are.
