I read this article a little while ago about why its important to eat before your workout. Personally, I have to eat when I wake up. if I go to the gym without eating I find I'm much more sluggish and usually don't last as long. Here is an article that supports eating before and after a workout

I can't workout in the mornings so I swim instead. Something about being so sleepy and the water works for me!0

I swim in the mornings. I get up at 6, thrown down a small packet of yogurt (the ones you can squeeze into your mouth, so I can eat it while I drive easily) and then I swim at 6:30. If I don't have my yogurt I notice my swims don't feel as good and I run out of energy. I also try to drink one cup of water before leaving the house.0
