Is it possible to stay lean while bulking?

On a successful bulk you'll gain some fat. You can try to minimize it but if you don't eat enough your gains will suffer.

If you go really slow for ore of a decomposition, yes. But from what I gather that is a painfully slow process. You will gain some fat on a true bulk, that's why most bodybuilders have bulk/cut cycles.

40/30/30 and at least a 250 calorie daily surplus. There's 600 calories in a pound but it takes a lot of energy to build that pound. You're a young man at your muscle building peak. You could put on up to a pound a week. What program are you on and how long have you been lifting?

OK, good. Just had to make sure you had the basics covered :) You can do more reading on T Nation or bodybuilding.com for more specific questions, too. MFP tends to have a lot more cardio bunnies and people that say "I don't want to do 'death lifts' I just want to tone" and "yoga/zumba/running made my legs bulky" so if you want more people with similar goals try BB.com or even /fit/ on 4chan (Scooby is back btw).

All you need to do to bulk is take in slightly more calories then you burn. Some people over do it, but as long as your body is never starving for them you are good. Lots of protein too.

Ha ha! You'll lose a few pounds once you're in the ground, for sure!

But on a serious note, if you go too far over your calories, you'll end up putting a bit of fat on as well. If you stick to a sensible surplus (say 200-300) then you'll put on less fat, but the muscle gain will be slower too. You just have to ask yourself what's more important for you:

It's probably quicker to go for a dirty bulk, fat and all, and then cut off the fat. Or you can do it more slowly with a minimal fat gain....

Depends if you can handle the fat gain and the way you'll look in the meantime on the dirty bulk or whether you want to keep your fat gain to a minimum.
