Fruit always taking me over sugar goal? is that ok..

I am a very clean eater and workout everyday. Ive always been told by my nutritionist to eat about 2-3 fruits a day, but when I eat an apple and an orange.. or add banana to protein shake my sugar is EASILY over my goal. I don't have the nutritionist anymore to ask, but my trainer at gym said fruits don't count for sugar? Just doesnt make sense, sugar is sugar to me!! Haha I guess what's an acceptable amount of fruit? Should i cut down? I don't eat candy or soda or treats.. other sugars come from greek yogurt, etc.

Not all sugar is the same. Fruit has fructose sugar, which is better for you than sucrose (table sugar).

My PCP says he doesn't care how much sugar I take in as long as it is from fruit....nom nom nom nom nom!!
  • I don't bother looking at the sugar column anymore. It only takes an apple and banana and your over already. Sugar is sugar whatever the source, but it seems to me that the fruit is also providing fibre, vitamins etc and it tastes good so I am not going to cut them down. I have never met anyone who got fat eating apples. Apple pie is another story :)

Fructose is broken down in the blood stream faster than Ann y other sugar molecule. This is a good source of fast energy but if you are just looking to fill your fruit servings in a day you can opt for tomato, avocado, any plant fruit which is by definition a seed delivery system. Fruit has seeds veggies are the leaf, stalk, or root of a plant and beans are the sears themselves. Squash is one of my favorite fruits.

you really only have to worry about fruit 'sugar' if you are pre-diabetic or diabetics, because ALL sugars are still sugars in this case. In this case you would eat more vegetables than fruits
