So, I am fairly new here and have a question. 2 months ago I had a hysterectomy. Kept the ovaries. So, anyone out there with the same spare parts? Do you still get the weight fluctuation you used to get with PMS? The scale has been slowly creeping up this week even though I have been doing good and the only thing I can think of is it is close to that time of the month. Thanks

Hi. I had the dame procedure 7 months ago. I do still suffer with the pms and a little bit of weight but withoit having the awful cycle that would usually keep me from workin out 3-4 days during that time I'm able to push through it now

If you still have ovaries and they are still functional, you will definitely have cyclical hormonal changes as you did before surgery. My surgery was nearly seven years ago. I had minimal symptoms (cramping, bloating, irritability, etc) from the start, but occasionally do have them still.

Makes sense. Especially with the crabby mood today. Thanks!

I had a hysterectomy (kept ovaries) back in Feb and this week would normally be my cycle and I have been dealing with PMS symptoms. Ive been craving junk food, hungry all the time even with 130 g of protein and 8-10 glasses of water its not filling me up and awfully tired. I did some research and it says that it's normal to have those things just as you normally would when its your cycle time. Was hoping I wouldnt have those symptoms after surgery but it only last two days this time and I wouldnt trade it for anything! Good luck

My doctor has been suggesting this for me. It's pretty scary. Why did you do it if you don't mind me asking.

I'm a minimalist who wants as little medical intervention as possible in every case. However, I'm getting a full hysterectomy (which does not include the ovaries, that's an oopherectomy, a different procedure) at the end of this month. Why - because I have a bunch of fibroids, one as big as my fist, several calcified. My uterus is about four times the size it's supposed to be. Imagine being 12-16 weeks pregnant for 2-3 years straight, that's me. And I have probably ten years left to menopause, so that's a long time to let it get worse when it's already crowding other organs. Taking it out now will be an easier procedure than taking it out five years from now. I'm looking forward to it. And the fact that I'll lose my poochy little preggo belly, that I could never ever get rid of no matter how much I diet or crunch or run - well, I can't say that bonus never crossed my mind.
