Not some gimmick, just a change..

I started MFP on January 1. Cliche, yes, but whatcha gonna do. Anyway, I am having great success, I have lost 10 percent of my body weight by making better choices! We joined a produce co op (highly recommend) and I've cut out sodas and pasta. My husband and I went to a wedding yesterday and someone complimented me. "What diet are you doing?" I was asked. "Not a diet," I answered. I'm just making better choices. Is it that difficult to believe? That if I were to do this I'd have to be on a diet? Do you consider MFP a diet?

No, I don't consider MFP a diet. I consider it a life style change.

I agree - it's not a diet. it's a lifestyle change. Yes, I am looking up calories and tracking them - but that's because I've got to learn more about the food I'm eating.

I am not looking for a diet. If you go on a diet, sooner or later you go off it. Then what?? I am looking to be healthier, a lifestyle change. I need a lifestyle change more than I need a diet.

I consider MFP an educational tool. It has really taught me about serving size and what is in my food. Because of the knowledge, I make different choices. I really don't think diets teach people how to eat correctly. It does the work for you. What good is that? I now watch/read about diets and roll my eyes. I still have a ways to go, but so far, this is just a size adjustment to what I use to eat.

It's not a diet, it's your life. MFP is a tool to help monitor the eating and exercise portion of your life. Seeing the numbers in black and white and red helps me understand how my choices affect my body. And honestly, I didn't really have to make any big changes in my life at all, I just needed to make some adjustments. Seeing in spelled out for me made those adjustments understandable. It's all about balance. You balance your checkbook or monitor your bank account, right? What goes in and what goes out. Same thing here. Balance and awareness.

Its not a diet, its a sustainable lifestyle change. Lots of people on this site trying to gain weight, or just to get better fitness etc.

When I get asked questions like that, I say I'm not dieting but have starting walking more, including walking home a couple of days a week. Thats usually enough to divert the conversation on to exercise and bacause anyone can walk, most people are happy to talk about that instead. I think most people who ask those sort of questions are looking for hints and tips they can use LOL
