Calories per day while sick???

I suffer from cronic migraines, which pretty much shut me down. On a day when I have a migraine, when it hits I stop functioning and all I can do is sleep, often 16-18 hours of that day is spent asleep or laying down. As well I am very nauseus and end up getting sick as a result. However, when I'm better, its all of a sudden back to normal. My question is, what kind of calorie count should I aim for with that level of activity?? I am asleep for most of the day, any calories I eat don't really stay down, but its very hard to keep above a 1200 calorie limit. Then I don't want to stuff myself when I'm feeling well again, and that wouldn't make sense either. I know I shouldn't worry about diet, only getting better, while sick, but they are so frequent, in varying degrees, that I have to work around them. Any thoughts???

I'd say aim for your 1200 calories just to keep yourself over the "starvation" cutoff. If you get them really frequently, see a doctor about your diet (seeing as how throwing up a lot can cause electrolyte imbalances which is really dangerous) to see if you should be using any supplements... otherwise, it's like having a stomach bug--one or two days every couple of months won't do severe damage as long as you give your body what it needs the rest of the time.

Hope this helps--migraines are the worst!
