Ice Cream Indulgence

Hello all!

I just had a small success that I wanted to celebrate. A friend of mine was moving out of an apartment adjacent to mine and gave me her pint of Ben & Jerry's Karamel Sutra. Normally, having such an enticing sugary treat in my house is deadly. (Anything sugary is my vice.) Typically, I would consume an unbelievably excessive amount of such a treat simply because it was there. However, today, while this bit of frozen goodness may have been calling my name, I indulged but I did so with moderation and stayed within my calorie goals for the day (slightly under, in fact) leaving both my conscience and most of the pint intact.

Then inspired by The Biggest Loser (my friends and I are somewhat addicted) I made a quick trip to Wal-Mart in the snow at 9:30pm to pick up a scale and tape measure. I got home and weighed myself and found that I had lost 2.6 pounds since my last weigh-in about a week ago (on a scale that moved out along with my friend). Anyway, I find it encouraging and gratifying that I can treat myself in moderation and still lose weight! It is possible to enjoy small treats and still be fit!

Yea for small indulgences and little celebrations!

Congratulations! In my opinion, the way to weight loss success (as defined by losing and keeping it gone) is to allow yourself to indulge in what you want in small amounts so you never feel badly restricted!

    Nice work!
  • Great job!! It's taken me a very long time to learn this too! We don't have to get rid of the things we love- everything in moderation! =) Congrats

I firmly believe it is much easier to maintain your sanity & long term "diet" goals when you don't completely give up certain foods that you enjoy. Small bits go a long ways in keeping one happy while staying healthy at the same time.

Plus, don't forget that an indulgent treat every now and then lets your body know you are not starving! I only lost a 1/2 pound this week, but after a weekend of indulgence (pizza, Salt Lick BBQ, 4 beers, etc.), I was thrilled at the small loss! BTW, I'm also hooked on Biggest Loser and can't wait for next week's show! My vote is for the pink ninja! :)
