Kickboxing

I'm 31 years old, 20 lbs over weight - I run and do insanity. I kind of want to do kickboxing. I dont know why. I've just always wanted to. Does any one here do kickboxing? When did you start? I'm afraid I'll feel stupid going to a kickboxing class with people that have been doing it since they were kids and here I'm starting at 31.

20lbs I'd say isn't anything to worry about when starting a martial art!
I weighed well over 200lbs when I started Tae Kwon Do! While my weight has fluctuated over the years (bad eating and currently logged as 201lbs) TKD means the world to me and I wouldn't give it up for anything!
Go for it, you have nothing to lose and a heck of a lot to gain.

I am 32 and have agreed to start aikido. Well I haven't told the Sensei , but he did strongly suggest it lol. I have prior experience in martial arts and have done one aikido lesson many years ago. My 6 year old started at the end of last year and this year the club as started adult classes. It's a break away from a uni club. Anyway my reasons for training are, my daughter has fun and it's helped with her strength and co-ordination. My 3 year old may start at age 4 , early as normally it's 5. I need to have a few classes before I can join in with the kids. Also, I can't roll, and can't fall. I will learn this as well as some good technique . The final reason is I want to challenge myself. As much as I know the people, I am nervous about going into a class. I have to do it though, even if it's just to say I have.
I say go along to the kickboxing class and watch. See if it offers what you want. See how everyone interacts with each other . Do they smile at you, even shyly ? Sometimes people don't chat straight away, but they should at least acknowledge you. You will soon get a feel to the atmosphere . Watching might give you the drive to give it a go0 -
To find out if you really want to do it, you have to try it.
So make sure the instructor:
Shows you correct form. Shows you how to use your hips in all movements. Teaches you how to breathe correctly during execution.
Those are the basics. If the instructor can't show you that, then find another instructor.

I've just joined kickboxing this past Tuesday. I've had previous experience with Karate and it sounded like a fun way to get exercise. Hoo boy! In large part due to my weight and my fitness level (or lack thereof), I've found it to e the most challenging and fun way to burn a wack of calories.
I've fallen in love with it. The instructors are fantastic, the others in my class are very welcoming and they've been great motivators when I feel like I 'just can't do it'. It's probably the most fun I've had in a long time.
Go for it! Check out the class, see for yourself. The worst that could happen is you didn't like it but had a great workout. Good luck and feel free to chat!0 -

I am 37 and started Muay Thai early Feb. LOVE it ! No previous martials arts experience either. There are people of all ages at my Muay Thai gym. age doesn't matter .
get into it, you will love it and the results. I have my class tonite actually.0 -
If you want to see how they go and try it at home first, YouTube has several great videos.....and they kick my butt!!!0
