Just got a polar FT4 yesterday and it is not working. When I turn it on, it just reads 00, and never kicks in. How am I supposed to put it on? I wet the strap per directions, put the applicator up, and I have it pushed up under my breasts. Where is the strap supposed to lay on my body? Maybe that has something to do with it? I just took it out of the box so I hope it is not the battery. Thank you for any gelp you can provide!

I am having the same problem with my FT7, just over a week old, worked 3 times perfectly and this morning it just would not find my heart beat. I have just finished talking with Polar UK customer services, and the guy advise me to replace the battery, and this does not fix the problem to get a refund or a new one.
I did wet the strap, made it tighter around my chest etc.

Ladies and gents,
If you want it to work effectively then spend a few extra $$ and buy the conductive gel.
You will never lose signal again.
I have the FT7.0 -

I had the same issue with my ft4. When I checked the battery it wasn't tight. Fixed it and moved on. I now use mine without even wetting it. However, I live on the gulf coast and it is ALWAYS humid here and skin is always moist.0
