I don't watch Food Network too often, but I gotta have me some Triple D. That show is great and some of the food looks delicious, but other foods look so unhealthy that I have no desire to eat it. They go to some really cool places.

I love this show so much!! Lately I've been enjoying "You gotta eat here!", which is also on the Food network, but I find that the food on it isn't AS bad as Diners, drive Inn's and dives... So I learn all sorts of new cuisines and techniques!

Although the food may be high calorie, you can still learn cooking techniques that you can use while cooking light too :drinker:

I used to not be able to watch Guy F stuff his face and moan and groan after every bite of crap....but now I simply cannot miss an episode. I've ignored his gross antics and started to enjoy the foods that are actually being cooked.

If you watch closely and pay attention, almost every single Triple D uses fresh ingredients and everything homegrown. Just because sticks of butter, cups of sugar, tablespoons of salt are used, doesn't necessarily mean the dish is a heart attack waiting to happen. Most people can re-create these recipes at and alter the measurements if they wanted.

I remember when they came to Buffalo and toured Lake Effect Diner, Grover's Bar and Grill, The Blackthorn Restaurant and Pub. Mmm Mmmm

I am a Triple D fanatic, have been for ages. I've only had a chance to go to one of the restaurants so far (little dive in Potterville, MI) and I actually loved it. Can't really go to many because a) they're not nearby and I'm not driving to Detroit for a burger and b) haha try fitting THAT into your macros for the day! :D I will be going to more at some point though!

Funny, I use salt, sugar, olive oil, butter, heavy cream -- I use no "diet" or light products -- I'm not fat. My husband is not fat, my daughter is not fat.

We practice portion control, moderation. We eat lots of veggies -- we exercise 3-5 times a week.

Well, that's AWESOME for you, why are you here? Not being a smart *kitten*, just wondering?

Why wouldn't I be here? Do you think moderation, portion control, and regular exercise are magical concepts one masters without knowing what their calories in vs. calories out are? Also, you are aware that this is a FITNESS site and there are a lot of people here that aren't trying to lose weight... right?

My husband and I are both in what's called the maintenance phase --- since you know losing weight and keeping it off requires a lifestyle -- that is for life -- not until you are done losing. I am on my 9th year of maintenance -- my husband is on his 4th.

eating that food sometimes do's not make you fat, eating it all the time and to much of it makes you fat.

My boyfriend calls it food porn, but I love the show. The problem is it makes me hungry.

You know, in France (where I come from), shows like this simply don't exist.

First, because we believe that food should be in moderation and that food should be fresh and healthy.

Cooking shows in french include cooking up a storm with good quality, fresh products... And France is not overweight.

    Not entirely true..

There is a myth about French people not getting overweight or obese.[1] The myth is so strong that some scientists think that there is a connection between obesity and genetics.[1] France is ranked as the 128th fattest country.[2] The issue has caused a shock in France.[3]
Obesity levels in France have doubled between 1995 and 2004 (to 11.3% of the population).[1] However, France has the lowest obesity rate in Europe.[4]
Nord-Pas-de-Calais is considered the fattest region in France. Fifty-one percent of the population here is considered either overweight or obese. This is in contrast with France's national average at 42 percent.[5] Between 1992 and 2000, in the region obesity in girls double while the total for boys grew by 195%.[3]

I'm a huge Triple-D fan! I like it for the show, Guy is funny, and the food (sometimes) looks good. I have no desire to actually eat the food, and even if I did I couldn't due to allergies, but I still watch.

From the OECD site - "About 1 in 10 people is obese in France, and almost 40% are overweight (including obese). OECD projections indicate that overweight rates will increase by a further 10% within ten years."

    Ooops.

Man Vs. Food is saliva inducing as well. :glasses:

    10ndv08.gif

Edited to say I do indulge in all those " no no" foods pretty often. For me portion control and having a proper balance is key. Obviously I'm not a fitness model or anything, but I've done pretty well with my weight loss so far, even with occasionally eating high fat "bad food".

I love that show. He is amazing.
    Adam, I love you :flowerforyou:

Triple-D and 'Man vs. Food' have been my #1 sources for 'food porn' for years and still are! While traveling, I try to hit 1 place from either show.
I hit a rib joint in STL; I deliberated arrived 2 hours AFTER the lunch rush and still had to wait over an hour in place before placing my order. IT...WAS...TOTALLY... WORTH IT!!! Once I ordered, my food was ready in only few minutes! I ordered the equivalent of a 'family of 4' meal and divvy'd it up into 3 meals.
I hit a dive bar in SF; it was TRULY a DIVE! Literally seating for only a dozen or two with mismatched tables and seats that reeked of "random garage sales" and completely full! I just happened to come in as a group was finishing, so I had a table to myself. The next couple that came in had to sit in high bar stools and eat off of a pool table! I ordered the double pork chop, it was very good but not "slap yo' momma' great. I ordered the mac-n-cheese to-go and took it back to the hotel. I nuked it later and ERMAHGERD!!! 5-6 cheeses blended perfectly yadda-yadda. Now THAT'S was 'slap yo' momma' great! Perhaps even 'sell yourself on the corner' GREAT! I'd order it again, but definitely to-go. That place's ambiance reeked of "illegal basement/garage bar'!
There was a Mexican place that I was gonna hit in Dallas but it was so skeezy-looking on the outside that I drove right by it twice and just went to Kroger to buy dinner stuff.
I watched a marathon this weekend and there are a couple of placing in Charlotte that I've already tagged in Google Maps to hit next time I'm there.
