Not new, but CONFUSED.

So I am very confused as of late. I started on the MFP-suggested 1200 back in June or so. I bumped that up to 1600 around January or February after finding out my BMR was 1429. I was losing really well on both of these... I went from 168 lbs to 130 between those two times, and down to 125 between February and March. Mid-March, I decided to follow IPOARM, so I'm now doing 2000 a day and not factoring in exercise. I figured I was close enough to my goal, I could stand slowing down.

Now here's the part that's confusing me: So the whole "tricking your metabolism" thing is b*s*, right? So why do I only seem to lose any more on weeks when I have a cheat day? I go WAY over, maybe 800-1000 calories, and yet that next weigh-in day, I've lost. I'm now down to 122. Could someone explain why this is? Is it all in my head? My diary *should* be public. I did stop logging partway through dinner this past Saturday and the previous Friday.

If anyone could help me make some sense of wtf is going on here, that would be so much appreciated. Thanks!

I have always noticed (not backed by research) that there is a lag of a few days before anything shows on the scale... that's just my experience though... that's why I like Wednesday weigh-ins, I would have a chance to feel the full impact of the weekend, and start to see the benefits of the week.

That would make sense. I'm just not sure why I *only* seem to lose weight after a cheat day. I weigh in on Monday mornings, and my cheats are usually on Friday or Saturday.

That... Basically is what I'm already doing. That didn't really answer my question at all

It is the trend of weight loss that is important, many factors can affect your weight from one day to the next, such as water retention, hydration, and the amount of waste still in your body. Does that answer it?

Still, not really I understand that multiple factors affect weight loss. I just want to know if there's any reason why I only seem to lose after a cheat day.

perhaps that is your body telling you to eat more on a regular basis?

I don't have an answer but the same thing happens to me. During the week I am pretty diligent about staying within my allotted calories and exercising but as soon as I slack off I see the loss. For example I was out of town Fri -Sun and did not exercise and there was a cheat day in there and now I am down 3lbs. I'm not going to complain though-Bring on the cheesy fries!!
