I at a salad with my dinner tonight and used 1 cup of lettuce, I cup of spinach and a mixture of chopped peppers.

Are veggies measured by cups?

1 cup of carrots =1 serving?

Same question for fruits.

I had 1 cup on strawberries for breakfast.

1/2 cup of vegetables or fruit is one serving, as is one average-sized piece of fruit (one apple, one banana, etc). With leafy greens, though, 1 cup equals a serving.

    Perfect. Thank-you!

I'm trying to eat more veggies so I will keep this in mind :)
  • The most accurate measure for fruits and veggies will be by weight in grams, pick up a food scale, they aren't to costly.

I don't count my veggies since they aren't very calorie dense but I do track fruit, example, frozen blueberries or an average size Apple are around 140g by weight and 70-80 calories.

Using the food scale is really simple, and you don't dirty any measuring cups. Also, most volume measurements are way off on the package. I was snacking on popcorn using the three and a half cup suggested serving, after I got the food scale, I realized by weight (28g) the actual serving was closer to two cups.
