EPOC experiences?

Having recently started running with the C25K program, I found that my heart rate was much higher than the recommended 65%-75% of max HR for weight loss and fitness. However, reading up about anaerobic exercise and high intensity exercise having a much bigger burn of calories after the period of exercise (EPOC) than the lower intensity equivalent, I wondered if this might not be a more effective way of getting fit, AND losing the lbs quicker in the process.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this subject they would like to share?
