Anyone From Florida!?

I'm in Wesley chapel, just north of Tampa. I've only been here a little while, and it took me a while to get used to it.
What I love; warm weather of course, I know I can walk out my front door in a T-shirt every day and be fine. The beaches and pools are nice and fun to go to, and I'm starting to find more and more fun outdoorsy things to do.
What I don't like: the economy sucks, there are a lot of people struggling financially and it is hard to watch. There seems to be more of a drug issue here too, which I worry about for my kids. The traffic is always bad in the city, and the Tampa area is crazy confusing to try to navigate!
Wesley Chapel is really bad for drugs and jobs. I grew up in Brooksville, it's even worse there. Meth is the drug of choice for Brooksville.
I actually think WC is the best around. We looked at so many different areas trying to figure out where to live, and WC gave the best options for school quality, less crime/drugs/unemployment. It's also much more updated as far as development goes. Go North in Paso county and it's terrible, go south and you're in the city. The WC/New Tampa area is a pretty coveted area.0 -
I am in the midst of moving to Broward county. Im excited about the move as the weather has been great. Still learning how to get active around here, but plenty to do thats for sure.0

...not when I was growing up! Wesley Chapel was always a **** hole when I was there, lol. Well it's good that it's on the up-and-up, when I left it was still kind of crappy.0 -

Purchase a GOOD umbrella and keep it in your car.
Thunderstorms are pretty much like clockwork around here in the late afternoon.0 -
Not that I want to say anything bad about Florida ( I am a native) but I couldn't agree more about the previous comment on education in the South versus up North. I have family that has moved from here in South Florida (Fort Myers/ Punta Gorda) area to various places up North and all of them have said the kids had to play catch up because we are way behind compared to the Northern States. Everything down here is laid back, which means traffic sucks. Most the people who are driving are in no big hurry because they are vacation. I personally love the heat, I would probably die in the snow. LOL. I hate that it is getting to the point of needed to speak Spanish in South Florida to get a job or order food. Its insane! The pay in Florida is horrible compared to other states. Beaches are nice if they are your thing. I tend to stay away. Guess I had enough of them every Sunday for the first 16 years of my life. Good luck on your move, hope you find a nice area to settle into. Just like any other state there is going to be crummy places to go and crummy people. You just have to make the best of it. Adventure is always fun :-)

From the Tampa area here, I love it...let's see...good things: sun, beaches, always nice enough to go for a hike, bike, run, etc...people are generally friendly, always something to do because of the warmer wearer there are year round farmers markets, and outdoor events, i really could go on, and on...great nightlife, year round race season, amusement parks, daily thunderstorms during the summer, hurricane parties, etc...
The bad: (disclaimer: I actually like the snowbirds, half the year you get more population driving the economy, and making for more successful events) love bugs (trust me you'll find this one out eventually lol) humidity, election year battleground state makes for tons more BS political coverage, and if you don't like old people this probably isn't the place for you...even Tampa (which is a more youthful area) is surrounded by places like st. Pete, and sun city lol.
So what part of Florida are you moving to?0 -
The springs are spectacular.
The yellow flies, cottonmouths and snowbirds on 95 on are not.0 -
I am in the Orlando area. There is so much to do if you like to get outside. There are lots of ways to get out on the water and have fun. "Olld Florida" is fun to discover. This area tends to be very casual wich can be good or bad. The traffic seems to get worse all of the time. My biggest pet peeve is people who move from the North and expect everything to be just like it was at "home". It is different here and it should be!0
